Hosea 10-12
Big Idea: There Is No Limit To The Redeeming And Pursuing Love Of Our Heavenly Father For His Children
The limitless and redeeming love of our Heavenly Father (Hosea 11:1-11):
1) The Lord graciously redeems His children out of slavery (11:1-2)
“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for this treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. It was not because you were
more in number than any other people that the Lord set His love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that He swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.”
- Deuteronomy 7:6-8
“This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, ‘Out of Egypt I called my son.’”
– Matthew 2:15
“In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’ So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
– Galatians 4:3-7
2) The Lord tenderly cares for His Children with kindness (11:3-4)
3) The Lord lovingly confronts the disobedience of His children (11:5-7)
“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives. ... But He disciplines us for our good, that we may share His holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”
- Hebrews 12:5b-6; 10b-11
4) The Lord compassionately restores His children (11:8-11)
