John 18-1-27
Big Idea: Even When We Are Unfaithful Jesus Is Always Faithful
Even When We Are Unfaithful:
1) Jesus is still in total control (v. 1-11)
Jesus is always in total control:
1) Jesus knows all (v. 4-5)
2) Jesus is powerful over all (v. 5-6)
3) Jesus’ word is fulfilled in all (v. 9)
4) Jesus’ purposes are accomplished in all (v. 2, 5, 11)
“From that time, Jesus began to show His disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, ‘Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.’ But he turned and said to Peter, ‘Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”
– Matthew 16:21-23
2) Jesus still loves without limits (v. 7-11)
3) Jesus still pays our price (v. 11-27)
“And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how He (Jesus) had said to him, ‘Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.’ And he (Peter) went out and wept bitterly.”
- Luke 22:61-62
When my flesh begins to fear:
1) Anchor and abide in Jesus’ unmatched power (v. 1-6)
2) Anchor and abide in Jesus’ unlimited love (v. 7-11)
3) Anchor and abide in Jesus’ unchanging Word (v. 9)
4) Anchor and abide in Jesus’ unmerited favor (v. 11)
