The God Who Watches Over Me

Psalm 121

Big Idea: Because The Lord Faithfully Watches Over Me I Have Nothing To Fear Daily

Lift Up My Eyes and See:

1) The Lord’s protection is constant (v. 3-4)

Why We Need God’s Help Daily:
1) We are prone to slipping (Psalm 73:1-3)

“Truly God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart. But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped. For I was envious of the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.”
– Psalm 73:1-3

2) God is gracious in upholding (Psalm 37:23-24)

“The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in His way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.”
– Psalm 37:23-24

3) We are prone to wandering (Joshua 1:7)

“Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.”
– Joshua 1:7

4) God is gracious in saving (Jude 1:24-25)

“Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.”
– Jude 1:24-25

2) The Lord’s protection is comforting (v. 5-6)

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.”
– Psalm 91:1-6

3) The Lord’s protection is comprehensive (v. 7-8)

The Lord Will Protect Us:
1) From all evil (v. 7)
2) For all eternity (v. 7)

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.”
– Psalm 23:4-6

3) In and through everything (v. 8)
4) All the time and everywhere (v. 8)

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

- Hebrews 4:16
