Luke 2:22-35
Biblical Hope: a confident expectation for the future anchored in the character of God, promises of God, and the power of God
Big Idea: Hope In My Waiting Comes As I Trust That God Is Always Working
How To Have Hope While I Wait:
1) I Trust God’s Sovereignty (v. 22-28)
3 Truths About God’s Sovereignty I Can Trust:
1) Because God is for me, I trust He is working for His best in my trial (Romans 8:28)
2) Because God is my refuge, I find rest in Him in every circumstance (Psalm 18:2)
3) Because God is mighty to save, I trust Him to fight for me and to provide the victory (Zephaniah 3:17; Exodus 14:14)
2) Remember God’s Promises (v. 26-33)
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor, he has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God: to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion - to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.”
-Isaiah 61:1-3
3) See God’s Salvation (v. 26-35)
How God’s Salvation Provides Hope For Me:
1) It is visible to me (v. 30)
2) It is for all people including me (v. 31-32)
3) It breaks through & provides light for me (v. 32)
4) It ushers in God’s glory to me (v. 32)
“ In him (Jesus) was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
-John 1:4-5
