John 13:21-38
Big Idea: True Disciples Love Christ Pre-Eminently And Love Others Like Christ Faithfully
Marked By Love:
1) Love Christ pre-eminently over all (v. 21-30)
“Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, ‘What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?’ And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.”
– Matthew 26:14-16
“In Him (Jesus) was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
– John 1:4-5
2) Love one another like Christ faithfully in all (v. 31-38)
“By this we know love, that He (Jesus) laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.”
- 1 John 3:16
“We love because He (God) first loved us. If anyone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.”
– 1 John 4:19-20
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."
– 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
– Romans 8:37-39
